Feedback on Public Hearing

Here is a letter that I sent to the City of Surrey Coucil to provied my feedback on a local builders application:

Notice of Public Hearing
Application: 7906-0205-00

To Whom It May Concern:

I am writing to provide my feedback on Application 7906-0205-00.

Health and Safety of Local Surrey Residence

As a resident in the middle of the ** Development Ltd, I have observed a number of unsatisfactory actions from the applicant:

- Blocking sidewalks with hazards (lumber with nails piercing through and facing up)

- Parking on sidewalks forcing pedestrians into the street and blocking the sight of drivers at an intersection.

- Illegally parked in back lanes and in front of fire hydrants, a safety issue if the fire department is called on and subsequently prevented from addressing an emergency due to their obstruction

- Failure to clean up building trash which leads to littering on public and private property and driving hazards on the road.

- The builder has failed to enforce noise bylaws and approved work occurring prior to 7 am and after 10 pm.

- Failure to clean up dirt and debris off of street, leading to objects that can damage vehicles.

- Failure to repair boulevards that have been damaged by the applicant’s staff.

I am fully aware that the applicant may have polices and signs in place that do not support the above behaviors however; enforcement is questionable and the above is what has been observed by a resident of 5 months.

Action Plan

I encourage the mayor and council not to deny the rezoning application but to hold judgment until Fall 2008. This will provide city staff the time needed to investigate the above and to determine if the citizens of Surrey would like this type of builder in their community. This will also provide the applicant an opportunity to reply in writing to the council and the citizens of Surrey.

Thank you for your time.
